The French Institutes for Advanced Study (FIAS) Fellowship Programme is now accepting applications for the 2026-2027 academic year. A total of 28 fellowship positions are available across seven institutes in France.

About the Programme

The FIAS Fellowship Programme offers 10-month research stays in France for high-level international researchers. It is open to all disciplines in the Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH), as well as to interdisciplinary fields connected to SSH.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to researchers of all nationalities and career stages (minimum PhD + 2 years postdoc)
  • Applicants must not have resided or worked in France more than 12 months during the 3 years preceding the application deadline

  • Based solely on scientific merit
  • Evaluated through a rigorous international peer-review process
  • Highly competitive

Application Timeline

  • May 29, 2025: Online application portal opens
  • July 16, 2025 (6:00 pm Paris time): Application deadline
  • July 2025: Eligibility screening
  • August-November 2025: Peer-review evaluation
  • December 2025: Pre-selection results announced
  • January-March 2026: Final selection by Scientific Boards
  • March 2026: Final results published
