Applications are invited for joint interdisciplinary doctoral program “Human Rights under Pressure – Ethics, Law, and Politics” (HR-UP) at the Free University of Berlin and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. HR-UP will offer 14 doctoral fellowships (7 in Berlin and 7 in Jerusalem) for its upcoming 2014 intake. Each doctoral fellowship includes a monthly stipend of €1,365, plus €103 for material expenses and mobility funds and is awarded for a period of maximum 36 month. The final deadline for applications is January 27, 2014.
Study Subject (s): Fellowships are available for Joint Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program “Human Rights under Pressure – Ethics, Law, and Politics” (HR-UP). HR-UP offer a unique opportunity to conduct cutting edge research in three sub fields of the most pressing contemporary challenges for human rights: Human Rights and Crises and Emergencies, Human Rights and Diversity and Human Rights and Globalisation.
Course Level: Fellowships are awarded for pursuing joint interdisciplinary doctoral research program at the Free University of Berlin and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Eligibility: Applicants interested in taking part as Doctoral researchers in HR-UP must:
- Conform to the general admission requirements of the university which will serve as their preferred home institution (including specific department requirements).
- Possess a qualifying degree (generally, a research Masters) in Law, Criminology, Philosophy, Political Science, History or other relevant discipline, with a high level of excellence.
- Possess excellent English language skills (both oral and written), with a minimal 90 TOEFL grade (or equivalent):
- Official TOEFL/IELTS/AMIR scores for all students who have not previously studied at an institution of higher education, where the language of instruction is English. (The school code for the TOEFL test is 0206.) The minimum TOEFL score required is 600 on the paper based test, 250 on the computer-based test or 90 on the Internet- based test. The minimum IELTS score required is 7.

Scholarship Description: “Human Rights under Pressure – Ethics, Law, and Politics” – HR-UP is a new joint interdisciplinary doctoral study and research program, focusing on these challenges. HR-UP is currently accepting applications for doctoral and post-doctoral research. The first three-year research cohort of the program will launch in October, 2014. Successful applicants admitted to the program will benefit from a full scholarship and a rich academic and professional qualification program for three years of their doctoral studies.
